Susa Monteiro

Susa Monteiro lives in Beja, the city where she was born.
She studied Stage Design at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (Lisbon Theatre and Film School) and Animation Cinema at CITEN.
She has been responsible for the graphic design, and she’s a co-organizer of the Beja International Comics Festival and the Beja Comics Library since their inauguration in 2005.
She has illustrated books and covers for various publishers in Portugal, Spain, France, and Brazil. She has also created posters and flyers for several institutions and projects, both in Portugal and abroad.
Her book Sonho (Pato Lógico, 2018) was published in Brazil and Italy and received an honorable mention in the National Illustration Award.
Since 2004, she has regularly illustrated for the national press.
For the Portuguese Mint and Official Printing Office (Imprensa Nacional Casa da Moeda), she created the coin “Unicorn,” part of the collection of mythological creatures.
She has frequently exhibited her work at comic festivals and galleries, both individually and collectively, throughout Portugal and abroad.
After collaborating on the graphic design of several scenes for José Miguel Ribeiro’s animated feature film Nayola, she is now preparing to direct her first short film, Vagabundo, produced by Praça Filmes.
